Our Music Program

Music is an essential and inspirational component of our worship, and we are blessed to have a variety of opportunities for members and friends to participate in the musical life of the church.

Recordings of each of the musical groups are available on this web site by following the music links in the left menu.

The (Senior) Choir

The choir enhances our morning worship from September through June, as well as for some special services. The group is comprised of men and women from high school age through “high age”. Rehearsals are from 7:30-9:00pm on Wednesday evenings. The choir is always interested in new members, who are encouraged to contact the musical director, Mary DeLibero, at mary@rhccucc.org.

The Handbell Choir

George Swanson, our former Minister of Music, formed the Bell Choir in the 1970s. The original bell choir started with 3 octaves of bells and 8-10 male and female volunteers. They chose the name Stepney Bells (Stepney was the original name of the parish that would become the town of Rocky Hill). In 1990, as interest in bell ringing grew, a second bell choir was formed composed of younger women in the church. They chose the name 'Jubilate Bells'. The Stepney Bells dissolved in 1995 leaving the Jubilate Bells as the only choir.

The Handbell Choir practices for 2 hours each week under the direction of current music director Mary DeLibero. They play during Sunday Services approximately once each month as well as for special services at Christmas, Lent, Easter, and Music Recognition Sunday. They have also played at area convalescent homes, and in the Memorial Day parade. Currently, the Jubilate Choir has 5 full octaves of bells and their repertoire ranges from Pachelbel and Haydn to Chopsticks and Caribbean themes.

Those interested in joining the Handbell Chior should contact the musical director, Mary DeLibero, at mary@rhccucc.org.

The Drum Choir

Organized in 2005, the drum choir is an intergenerational choir of women and men who “make a joyful noise unto the Lord!” Ranging in age from 11 on up, most members play African djembe drums. In addition, the choir has recently added several percussion instruments to its ensemble playing. Most members do not have formal training in playing African drums; learning happens within the group and through workshops held at the church once or twice a year. The choir plays in RHCC worship about a half dozen times a year, and in other ecumenical settings in Rocky Hill. Currently, practices are held on the Third Tuesday of the month from 7:00 – 8:30 PM, with some additional rehearsal times scheduled near performance days.

The drum choir welcomes new members, who should contact the musical director, Mary DeLibero, at mary@rhccucc.org.
