Rocky Hill
 Congregational Church

”Fat Sunday” Worship Service
February 26, 2006

Together with the churches of the Connecticut Conference,
we worshipped this day in solidarity with the people of
Central Congregational UCC in New Orleans.

Musical highlights:

The RHCC Orchestra accompanied the congregation in an opening rendition of “When the Saints Go Marchin’ In”. The orchestra then performed a jazzy gospel arrangement entitled “Swing Low, Sweet Clarinets”. The orchestra is an intergenerational ensemble comprised of 17 members (2 flutes, 2 clarinets, an oboe, 2 trumpets, 2 baritones, a trombone, 1 viola, 1 cello, a bass, bells, and 3 percussionists) ranging in age from pre-teen to,… well,… never mind.

For the offertory anthem, the a cappella singing group Runaway Harmony sang a spirited Percy Hall arrangement of “Just a Closer Walk With Thee”. The closing hymn was another special arrangement of “Do Lord”, accompanied by a small Dixieland ensemble selected from the orchestra.

Traditional spiritual, arranged by Dave Hall

1. Way down south in old New Or-leans
Is a church which has some needs..
It’s our turn to be their good friends
And to help replant some seeds.

Refrain: Oh when the saints go marchin’ in.
Oh when the saints go marchin’ in.
Lord I want to be in that number,
When the saints go marchin’ in.

2. ‘Twas a storm they called Katrina,
Blew ashore with force and gust.
Was the worst they’d ever seen-a
But the church in God did trust.

Refrain

3. Now’s the time to be a neighbor
And to lend our helping hands.
All it takes is cash and labor -
Let us carry out God’s plans!

Refrain

As we help them rebuild again.

2. Wind and water left the land in such disarray, (3 times)
But they didn’t turn astray.   Refrain

3. First we prayed, but now’s the day to show how we care, (3 times)
