Serving the Community and the Wider World
The Board for Missions is the outreach arm of the Rocky Hill Congregational Church. It provides both physical and financial support for our Church’s outreach ministries. The Board supports groups and activities which further the ideal of Christian service and social vision. It is responsible for preparing and administering the Church’s annual benevolence budget and invests funds targeted for long term benevolence activities. It is a very busy and engaged group.
The Board of Missions has an ongoing relationship with the Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, Mississippi. The relationship started in 2005 with the “Biloxi 24,” a group of 24 individuals from the Church, traveling to Biloxi to help renovate a hurricane-damaged house. Since then, Missions has continued to send groups and to supply funds to further the work of the Back Bay Mission.
In Hartford, Missions provides funding for the Christian Activities Council. A specific project, outside of its normal annual financial support was the Irving Street House project. $30,000 from the Board helped fund the project. A wide cross section of Church members also provided labor to build the house. The Board also supplies funds to support the Council’s Adventures in the City summer program.
The Board also participates in the Hartford Area, Habitat for Humanity, House of Abraham Program both financially and with contributed labor. The House of Abraham program is an interfaith program which seeks to promote understanding between Christians, Moslems and Jews. A house in Hartford was built in Hartford under the aegis of this program.
Locally, the Board supports programs to assist individuals with fuel and food. It has strong partnerships with the Town of Rocky Hill Human Services department and other local support organizations such as the Pastoral Counseling Center, the Rocky Hill Care Team and Rocky Hill Youth.
